Overtime pay under the Saudi Labor Law (Article 107)
Work after hours or on a rest day is paid above the normal hour. Article 107 sets the premium, and many people work it out wrongly on the whole wage. This guide sets out the right formula with figures.
The formula
An overtime hour = the hour's wage + half of the hour's basic wage. The 50% premium is on the basic wage only, not on allowances.
The hour's wage = the monthly wage ÷ 30 ÷ daily working hours; the basic hour the same way on the basic wage.
The 50% premium is on the basic; the normal pay is on the total.
An overtime hour, worked
Basic 8,000 and allowances 2,000, an 8-hour day. The hour's wage = 10,000 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 = 41.67; half the basic hour = 8,000 ÷ 30 ÷ 8 ÷ 2 = 16.67. An overtime hour is SAR 58.33, and 10 hours are SAR 583.33.
A rest day worked
It is paid at the day's wage plus half its basic. On the same wage: 333.33 + 133.33 = SAR 466.67 a day. Two days and 10 overtime hours come to SAR 1,516.67, the same as the Ministry of Justice's calculator.
If it was never paid
Overtime pay is part of your dues and is paid with them when you leave if it was not paid before. Keep the record of hours or the written instruction: it proves the hours if you claim.
The 2025 amendments let the employer, with the worker's consent, give time off instead of overtime pay. Agree it in writing.
An overtime hour = the hour's wage + half the basic hour; a rest day = the day's wage + half its basic. Enter your hours in the calculator with the rest of your dues, then get your CV ready.
