Sales representative cover letter — a full example

Last updated:

No role is judged on numbers the way sales is. A sales manager reads your letter looking for two: what your target was, and how much of it you hit. If they aren't there, they assume the worst — and your letter is competing with ones that state both plainly.

The complete example

This is a guide, not something to send verbatim. Replace every number and company name with your own — a copied letter is easy to spot, and numbers that aren't yours fall apart in the interview.

I am applying for your Senior Sales Representative position. I have five years in B2B sales and have delivered 124% of my annual quota in each of the last two years.

At Digital Solutions I manage a portfolio of 60 mid-market accounts generating SAR 4.8M a year. I opened 17 new accounts last year and lifted the average deal value from SAR 45,000 to SAR 68,000 by focusing on cross-selling supporting services. I work in Salesforce daily to manage my pipeline, and I am comfortable negotiating and closing with finance departments.

I would be glad to meet and discuss the target you have set for this role and how I would plan to reach it. My CV is attached — thank you for your time.

What makes this role's letter different

Quota attainment in the first two lines

"124% of quota" is read before anything else in the letter. Bury it and you lose half its force.

Size your portfolio

Account count, revenue, average deal value, sales cycle. These place your level far more precisely than any job title.

Name your CRM

Salesforce, HubSpot or Zoho. Employers assume it and are regularly surprised, so stating it plainly sets you apart.
