Sales Representative CV Example
Last updated:
Sales is the most honest role on a CV: you either hit quota or you didn't. Any sales CV without percentages and revenue figures reads as concealment. Lead with quota attainment in the first line of your summary.

Tips specific to this role
Open with quota attainment
"128% of quota" in the first line keeps a hiring manager reading. A sales CV with no number gets discarded fast.
Give portfolio size and growth
"From 28 to 45 accounts" shows growth you generated yourself, rather than a book handed to you.
CRM is a near-universal requirement
Salesforce, HubSpot or Zoho — name the system, because most sales postings filter on it.
Licences and certificates employers ask for
Name in full any you hold, with the number where there is one — many postings screen on these.
- Sales asks for certificates less than almost any field — your number is your certificate, and quota attainment outweighs any paper.
- Fluency in a named CRM: Salesforce, HubSpot or Zoho. Postings match the name literally.
- A valid driving licence — required for field sales roles and left off a surprising number of CVs.
- English at an honest level if the territory includes international accounts.
- Product-specific certifications if you sell in a technical or medical field, where they genuinely count.
Mistakes specific to this role's CV
- A sales CV with no numbers. In this field specifically it is the worst possible choice, because the whole job is measured in figures.
- Giving the quota without the attainment. "A 2M target" says nothing; "118% of a 2M target" says everything.
- Omitting the type of selling: consumer or business, field or inside, short or long cycle. It is the first thing a sales manager screens on.
- Claiming "excellent negotiation skills" without one deal that demonstrates them.
- Not stating portfolio size and account count. Managing 12 major accounts is not managing 300 small ones.
- Hiding a period where you missed quota. State it with the reason and the correction — every sales manager knows years vary.
Questions that come up in this role's interviews
Prepare an example from your own work for each — a generic answer is what every other applicant gives.
What percentage of quota did you hit last year?
The single most important question in the interview. Have the number, the percentage and the period ready, and do not hesitate — hesitation here reads as concealment.
Tell me about the hardest deal you closed.
Pick one with a real objection you overcame. Structure it: who the client was, what the objection was, what you did, what it closed at and over what timeframe.
How do you handle "your price is too high"?
The weak answer discounts immediately. The strong one separates price from value: ask what they are comparing against first, then tie the difference to a measurable effect on their side.
How do you build your pipeline?
They want to know whether you hunt or wait. Name your sources — referrals, target lists, events, cold outreach — and roughly what share comes from each.
What do you do when you are behind quota mid-quarter?
They are measuring behaviour under pressure. A good answer covers reviewing the pipeline, killing dead deals, and concentrating on what is closest to closing — not simply "work harder".
Where this job leads
Sales is one of the clearest and fastest paths precisely because the measurement is explicit: representative to senior representative or account manager, then team leader and regional sales manager. What separates those who move from those who stay is not deal count but the ability to repeat and document the method — whoever can teach others what they do is who gets promoted into supervision. There is a lucrative sideways route too: sales into business development or product management, because you are the closest person to what the market actually asks for.
