Nurse cover letter — a full example

Last updated:

Healthcare hiring begins with licence verification before anything else: Saudi Commission for Health Specialties classification, years of experience, the unit, and certifications such as BLS and ACLS. A letter that doesn't state these in the first two paragraphs delays itself for no reason.

The complete example

This is a guide, not something to send verbatim. Replace every number and company name with your own — a copied letter is easy to spot, and numbers that aren't yours fall apart in the interview.

I am applying for the Intensive Care Nurse position at your hospital. I have seven years in nursing, four of them in intensive care, and I am registered as a Specialist Nurse with the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties.

At King Fahd Specialist Hospital I work in a 16-bed intensive care unit, caring for two to three critical patients per shift. I contributed to a 34% reduction in catheter-associated urinary tract infections on the unit within a year following the introduction of a revised care protocol. I hold current BLS and ACLS certification, work daily in the Cerner electronic record system, and communicate with patients and families in both Arabic and English.

I would welcome the chance to meet and discuss how I could contribute to the unit. My CV and registration certificate are attached — thank you for your time.

What makes this role's letter different

Registration comes first

State your Saudi Commission for Health Specialties classification and number in the opening paragraph. Verifying it is the first screening step; burying it delays your file.

Name the unit precisely

Intensive care, emergency and maternity are entirely different specialisms to a nursing director. "Nursing experience" on its own is not enough.

Certifications expire

BLS, ACLS and PALS all lapse. Say that yours are current — you will be asked regardless.
